LOG SURFACE

A hand-peeled natural look is a standard for us.

See our standard hand peel (pic 1), and our heavy hand peel (pic 2).

As an alternate, we can leave the surface smooth (not shown, see below for size restrictions).

Natural Logs

Our Oregon log home kits are designed to the unique specifications of our customers. We want to provide the exact look and feel you want for your dream home. That's why we also produce natural logs. These logs are tapered; the size callout is the small end (called the "tip"). On average, cedar logs get 1" bigger every 6 to 8 per lineal ft, whereas Douglas Fir and Pine logs get 1' bigger every 10 to 12' per lineal foot.

LOG SURFACE

This shows our standard hand-peeled natural look. The look or character of the log is also very important, the pictures illustrate the differences: Cedar log (approx 24" at base) nicely hand peeled low knot character (pic 1), cedar log (approx 13' at tip) with bark stripped leaving natural surface with heavy knot structure (pic 2), cedar log (approx 20" at base supporting 13" uniform logs) nicely hand peeled with moderate knot structure (pic 3). We can also just leave the bark on (pic 4), but as with other products that preserve natural elements, the result may not be pristine and will vary in appearance.

LOG MODIFICATIONS

Cut flat surfaces and cut the log in half. Examples: Cedar slabs with "live or natural" edges for a table (butterfly matched) (pic 1), the finished dining table with the slabs (pic 2), 1/2 log mantle with natural log arms (pic 3).
